Who is a M.A.P. Intern?
- Someone who expresses his/her faith & relationship with Jesus Christ through the planning & executing of M.A.P. 2010.
- Someone who exhibits strong leadership skills.
- Someone who is 18 years or older and has been out of high school for at least one year.
- Someone who is a self-starter; a person who can finish one assignment & start on something else without having to be told what to do next.
What is the job of a M.A.P. Intern?
Work closely with the M.A.P. Director, M.A.P. staff, youth volunteers, & adult volunteers to ensure the proper planning, completion, & evaluation of M.A.P.
Before M.A.P. (mid-May – July 8)
- Pray for each person associated with M.A.P.
- Procure & deliver scaffolding, construction materials, etc. to 16 work sites.
- Solicit donations from local businesses.
- Assist in worship planning.
- Help with administrative tasks (making copies, compiling binders/notebooks, writing & mailing letters/post cards, etc.).
- Develop relationships with youth, youth directors, pastors, & adults from Northside UMC & various other churches involved with M.A.P.
- Check-in regularly & communicate staff concerns to M.A.P. Director in a timely manner.
- Spend time during each visit with the homeowner to ensure their expectations are being met & addressing any concerns.
- Recognize & remember personal limitations
During M.A.P. (July 9-15)
- Assist the M.A.P. Staff & other adults as needed with miscellaneous M.A.P. duties (worship, clean-up, small groups, skits, & lights out).
- Attend the Staff Meeting each night during M.A.P. to share concerns & joys, offer support for one another, give guidance to & receive guidance from your peers, etc.
- Assist herds (re: crews) at work sites (roofing, transporting supplies, etc.)
- Actively encourage good stewardship of materials & supplies.
- Assist with worship set-up, worship experience, & worship breakdown.
- Check-in regularly with M.A.P. Director throughout each day; communicate staff concerns to M.A.P. Director in a timely manner.
- Maintain active, positive communication with youth & adult volunteers.
- Clearly inform youth and adult volunteers of M.A.P. rules & regulations.
- Enforce M.A.P. rules & regulations daily with the help of M.A.P. staff & adult volunteers.
- Live in community with M.A.P. staff, youth & adult volunteers at Northside UMC. (You will be expected to spend each night at Northside UMC.)
- Encourage crews to build relationships with homeowners
- Be in charge of one daily duty – i.e. ice, money, materials, adults, etc.
After M.A.P. (July 16-31)
- Pick-up all supplies & tools from work sites, inventory, organize, & deliver to designated storage area.
- Leave each home in better condition than when M.A.P. arrived, completing roofing & removing debris in a timely manner.
- Spend time during each visit with the homeowner to ensure their expectations are being met & addressing any concerns.
- Check-in regularly with M.A.P. Director throughout each day.
